This theory of negotiated roles

Ok I heard Peterson talking often about this theory you can negotiate roles in society. He says often theres the option available to each of us to negotiate a personality because is not fixed in stone. You can see what youre willing to do, and what you refuse to tolerate, see what you can get others to give you according to the value you provide and see what responsibilities you are willing to take. The result is a very complex process he describes as "negotiation".

So he says often if you did not yet negotiate what you want to be, you will be resentful. And if you are resentful you are passive. And if you are passive somehow you get into a psychological burnout that leads to further depression or what he describes as "nihilism".

So the big idea is you should open a negotiation. And accept the negotiation can end up in a rejection. Society can tell you "fuck you". And you take it, because you lost a negotiation.

I dont think all his theory is bad or wrong. I was merely noticing that its not really what I see around me. In the multiculty west we are not experiencing a situation where people become liberal aristocrats who negotiate and invent new ways to be. Personalities are all the same instead. Theres no noblemen like don quixote types who go around pursuing objectives they invented on their own. Theres nobody over the top, nobody whatsoever.

The only people with a personality that is not artificial are older people who talk dialects and have expressions and way to be that are kinda unique, they invented languages they had all sorts of wisdom literature soon to be forgotten. In my country there were 21 regional dialects, now most people lost the idea we had such an insane level of diversity before. The diversity we had is completely over.

So while the theory from Peterson MAY BE true, and is possible he is talking about a real process. I still do not see it happening. I see a decline in creation of new personalities and new ways to be in the world and I see a trend towards what he would cal "collectivism" I mean everyone gets flattened into roles that seem immutable. All races become racial stereotypes. Memes now describe us all very accurately. None of us has any chance to emerge out this situation and when do we start negotiating? The people who negotiate get shunned INSTANTLY.

Society is simply not open to any negotiation. The multiculty dystopia is more like a place where no negotiation occurs, and everything is fixed in stone.
