A study by Gedeon Richter and the NAFI Analytical Center revealed alarming trends indicating a connection between sexual health and the demographic situation in Russia.
Gazeta.Ru has reviewed the results of the study.
22% of young people (18-23 years old) reported that they have no sex life. 40% of respondents aged 18 to 45 avoid discussing sexual problems with their partner, and every fourth (25%) ignores existing difficulties.
More than half of respondents (51%) noted problems in sexual relations, among which the most common are lack of desire (53%) and physical dissatisfaction (39%). Misunderstanding, fears, complexes and distrust together accounted for 58%. At the same time, only 4% seek help from specialists.
Men are more likely to experience psychological problems, such as misunderstandings about sexual preferences and boundaries (29%), as well as fears and complexes (23%), while women are more likely to experience physiological difficulties – lack of desire (58%) or problems with orgasm (45%).
The problem of lack of sexual desire is more common among representatives of generations Y and X (respondents aged 24 to 45, 54% respectively). For zoomers (18-23 years old), the problem of misunderstanding and lack of communication between partners regarding sexual boundaries is more pressing than for representatives of other generations (30%).
Irina Gildebrandt, Director of Strategic Projects at the NAFI Analytical Center:
"As the results of the study show, respondents of different generations named lack of desire as the main problem in their sexual relationships. Young, reproductively active people do not want to have sex. Sexual preferences and behavior do change noticeably from generation to generation, and these changes deserve a more detailed analysis. Modern young people prefer to stay at home, avoid dates, preferring virtual communication. Young people, those who are now 18-23 years old, are called the "anxious generation" - a third of them suffer from anxiety disorders. Many young people are constantly stressed. And such a state, as we know, not only does not contribute to finding partners, but also reduces sexual desire."
