There is something I must say. I done sculptures 3D models for 10 years. After so long, I developed the habit of using the back button. When I carved wood I thought "wow its easy, its just subtractive method with the boolean knife". Sure, but everytime I do an error im stuck with it. I get 1 shot with wood, real life has no back button and no timeline. So youre stuck with the errors you make. Real life carvng prioritizes planning, you are going to develop a mindset of "think before you act". But you also develop intuitition, like "listent to the wood", when you find curves and lines in the wood by carving you will stop and think "thats enough carving".
I call carving "the boolean knife" and Im also curious if I will develop new skills when I go back to 3D sculpting. What will wood teach me? I have no idea yet. Disney artists developed new skills by changing media, some of them explored painting, some did photography and described it like a cheat, some were engineers who created new tools like the famous multiplane camera, some were economists or random people from the streets who noticed syncing voice to music was a good idea.
I am wondering what will I learn from wood. This will teach me something I just dont know what is it.
