In South Dakota, a shocking crime was driven by a decades-old grudge. Carl Ericsson, a 73-year-old man from Watertown, sh+t and k***ed his former high school classmate, Norman Johnson, in 2012—over an incident that happened more than 50 years earlier. Ericsson told investigators he couldn’t stop thinking about a humiliating prank from their school days, where Johnson had allegedly put a jockstrap over his head in front of classmates. That memory festered for decades, leading him to confront and ultimately shoot Johnson twice in the face at his home.
The k**ing stunned the local community, as both men were long retired and well known in their town. Johnson, a former teacher and coach, was described as kind and respected, while Ericsson had no previous criminal record. In court, Ericsson pleaded guilty but mentally ill to second-degree murd*r, expressing remorse and saying he had been haunted by the incident for most of his life.
In June 2012, Ericsson was sentenced to life in prison.”
