I am assuming that she must have been in sections of whatever city she was travelling to that were frequented by western tourists. There are many places however where she would have been either immediately gang raped and then beaten to death by all pious Islamic men or otherwise arrested and then confined to a dungeon where she would have likewise been raped and beaten by the guards.
