There was a show called xfiles and lots of manga talked about conspiracies. It wasnt necessary to be a schizo retard to think america controls the weather, or to discuss bigfoot. All could have been done in the open and you would wonder "are there really aliens out there". You would read azimov and great scifi literature thinking about it without being called "conspiracy theorist".
Nowadays is kinda differnet, any thought that isnt mandated by the government is considered inappropriate and you are looked at with suspicion for having pondered an idea that the government didnt give you permission to think.
In my youth there were tons of video games that were based on what today we call "conspiracy". It was kids with marijuana that would get into these things.
In my youth conspiracy theory was fun
