I have reasons to think ideology is a recent innovation.
I dont believe in the recent definitions of ideology.
When I was a young student approx in the 2000s, the word ideology was defined as a system of thought that justifies power. It was basically assumed power would exist and would create pseudo-rational justifications to express a reason for the preservation of power or other goals.
I think that definition was flawless and I agree with it.
I disagree instead with the definition that was given by marxists and other assholes. The new definition in vogue is that ideology is an experience, a system of thought. Any thought that can be systematized or described is an ideology. Descriptions are ideology. Memes are ideology. Marxists also have the idea of "false consciousness". How can be a consciousness is false is a thing they rarely try to discuss. But lets supersede this small issue.
Ideology in the current interpretations is an organization around the perception of the world, so it literally frames interpretation itself or "meaning"... Also noticed the recent increase in pop-philosophers who focus about altering perceptions and talk about "meaning" like jordan peterson.
Definitely, we live in times where the word ideology has been changed.
But I disagree with recent definitions because ideology cannot be "a system of thought", if you can systematize ideas does not means they are an "ideology" just because you are dishonest and you create a system around ideas. Pre-modern societies for instance had no ideology whatsoever, what they had is myths, religoins, customs, philosophy (real philosophy, not fake one like marxism or nazism). Ideology requires a certain psychological and social condition: abstract mass identity and it also requires the idea of society conceived as an abstract totality, you have to believe history has a direction, you have to justify systemic structures. All these requirements are modern, and only if you believe in these ideas you can use the updated definition of ideology. Its easy for me to demonstrate in the past these requirements were simply not met.
Obviously the contemporary university student bamboozled by the updated definition of "ideology" will tell me "but myths are also ideology". As I said already I utterly reject the new definition. I disagree, I dont think if you can create a system that system is true or the ideas you are analyzing can be called "ideology" just because you dishonestly categorize them. Ideology isn’t just "ideas" thats where I disagree.
If we keep treating "ideology" as synonymous with "system of thought" then we keep systematizing our beliefs endlessly, and we are losing science and western values doing it. Like notice how many universities promote feminism (700 just in the USA), or how many historians are marxist. They write "marxist-historian" in their title, then they are not historians simple as. Or how many people are "conservative" or how many religious people put religion first science second. I mean we already lost academia, lost it to pursue various "systems of thought" that we didnt need. Science and scholarship became interpretive activism, thats all it is right now.
Science is merely a language that someone uses in place of bible quoting. I remember for example dinesh dsouza admitting it, for him the idea of science is merely a language he uses when speaking with people who arent religious like he is. All these people do is learn language as some sort of jargon, and cherrypick from it what they need to justify their respective beliefs. Christian will twist and contort science so he can prove christianity, marxist will pollute history to prove stalin was a great man, nazi will destroy science just to prove his fake and gay theories. This is just activism. Normies should go out if they dont believe truth exists.
Why are we allowing this to happen? We should probably revolt against ideology and restore the west.
No idea how ideology can be allowed to exist.
