I dont disagree with self improvers and grinders. In the principle I dont disagree. I mean the principle is legit, you improve yourself and its fine.
Where I disagree is in the definition of "self" and the definition of "improvement". Firstly I dont think they are separated from the collective enough to know what they truly want to improve and decide what they want to be. There has to be a sufficient level of separation from a collective to define a "self" and separate it from "the others".
I am not claiming here you are going to be a hero of individualism or some caricature who is entirely self sufficient, that stuff belongs to american fiction books like the ones from jack london and ayn rand.
I do not want to portray the ideal of some "individual" that never truly exists in real life and is full of contradictions. The self is not a mythical atomized individual rootless identityless normie that is often talked about by critics of modernity. The "self" is not even a metaphysical abstraction, I see it in a very very simple way: its someone that can add something to the space and the possibilities. Its all about introducing a new axis into reality, something that Mark Henry (wrestling) was able to do for example. Or another hero of my lifetime is Kunaboto from the hentai community.
I imagine the "self" llike when mark henry invented his very unique wrestling move. Mark basically struggled all his life trying to do "something nobody ever did" and one day he made it. Its just that, a struggler who will raise atop, and will invent something. Mark Henry didn’t invent wrestling becoming some sort of individualist hero that invents reality out of nowhere, this is just shit that comes from american authors like ayn rand or jack london that is completely retarded and will never happen. Mark simply adapted and with a lifetime of dedication he became unique.
Now, to become someone is not required adulthood or enlightenment or any epiphany moment and no heroic cataclysmic break from society. All kids can play around their own identity and say "I want to be the king of the pirates" or "Im going try to throw the ball like this" (In a new way or in an unusual way) and the kids can invent themselves the more they go on in life. As you can see is easy, simple and it requires no american literature and no heroic bullshit from books, no transcendental philosophy. Its what we humans do naturally FUCK PHYLOSOPHY.
Secondly I dont think "improvement" is that super limited set of activities like going to the gym or raising above others inside of a fictional hierarchy in the corporate world. That stuff looks to me like D&D and I would give more respect to a dungeon master in a nerd shop than to a corporate manager who believed all his life corporate hierarchy is worth something.
There is nothing inherently wrong with the idea of having stronger body, higher status, more money, be productive. Till here, is all normal and I think is fine. The issue I see is the way the "self improvers" interpret these things is all off, all wrong. It seems to me as if tey pursue a skill-tree inside of a gamified model of reality which feels fictional. ALso, none of them achieved anything noteworthy. None. There are no achievements in any of these fields. Curiously also they disregard the sciencemaxers and the path of the wizard for some reason, as if knowledge was useless and only muscle and power were useful. Muscle and power are rarely functional multiclass builds in any RPG, the musclemaxed powermaxed character is just a minion you defeat early in life, they are never the final boss.
Basically all self improvers look to me like newbs who entered D&D but they dont even know they can also be dungeon masters, and dungeon master is a completely legit option. You have to be completely retarded to think being a dungeon master is stuff of legends only happening inside ayn rand books. Its the most normal ordinary mundane thing you can do in your life. And self improvers are also terrible underachievers, none will acheive their supposed "goals", showing to us their "goals" are all false. All they do is become replaceable useless cogs in a machine they think (with their false cynicism) is "ultimate reality". no nerd in a D&D shop thinks his cope is "ultimate reality".
In a nutshell I think Most "grinders" claim individualism while optimizing themselves to be maximally interchangeable inside systems they didn’t design and can’t meaningfully question. D&D nerds are already above them because they live in a system they designed they can question and they can change.
Self improvers.

Self improvers start with the assumpion the world as currently structured is the world as such, is their variant of "ultimate reality". Often they are cynical on the internet, they say they know true reality. There are ultimate markers of success, ultimate ever-existing hierarchies. Nothing is an invention.
Imagine a hamster grinding on the wheel. The hamster will not believe the wheel can be bulit, he assumes wheels are a fact of life. The self improver cannot become an entrepreneur for example, because he assumes the corporate diagram of the hierarchy he is climbing is "ultimate reality", little does he knows that corporate diagram at times is drawn with a pencil by a kid and is a dream someone had.
Markets, hierarchies, ladders and all these metrics. None of them is treated as an invention or an artifact humans created, they are instead treated with some false "cynicism" these grinders and improvers show to us with boastful pride on the internet. This is why all of them are underachievers. Nobody who believes hierarchy is an "ultimate reality" can achieve anything in life.
They are not top bodybuilders, they are not entrepreneurs, they are not artists, they are nothing, they are cogs in a machine. I would give them more credit if they achieved in their invented D&D copes, but they dont. They never do achieve anything. It never happened.
If you read arnold, he was not a grinder self improver. In the book pumping iron, arnold challenged every single norm around him. He almost invented single-handedly his own persona. This is because ladders in hierarchy are never geological formations, they are concepts. All concepts can be invented, someone had to invent them. Now think "what if everyone was a self improver grinder", then nobody would invent anything new, humanity would be dead since a while.
Think of arnold. Was he ever a normie? No. He didnt accept the idea of what a bodybuildr should look like, he didnt want the social role of bodybuilder quiet marginal and apologetic, he didnt want a separation between his physique charisma and sexuality, he didnt accept the idea bodybuilding is small niche and "not serious". He took it all from life, thats what a true non-normie does in life. And this is what none of the self improver grinders is doing, all they do is grind a wheel assuming the wheel is "ultimate reality". They are plebs. Fuck them all.
