When I got into conspiracies I also have read about CIA inventing the word "creativity". Now, you will think this is insane, creativity is a property how can CIA invent it? Well i was thinking the same but I noticed that medieval thinkers didnt talk about it at all. They were talking about imagination or discovery or faculties of the intellect.

Th idea of "creativity" is very recent.

A creation belongs to god and it means to bring something into existence from nowhere. This is god power in a nutshell.

A human can make or imitate or rearrange matter but cannot create. Comparing a human to a god is more recent.

If you called a human "creative" in days of thomas aquinas you would have been burned alive. But they would say a human can discover or participate in forms that god created. In these medieval times people discussed memory and imagination and will.

One thing that mattered was to understand truth vs producing illusions. You can remember the divine order or you can lead away from the truth. But imagination and memory were the 2 central faculties discussed. Ingenium is a natural predisposition that allows someone to grasp relations and he can see connections quickly. This isnt the idea of "creativity", but is the closest that was considering an individual capable of having inventions. But all was around the idea you use memory and imagination.

I think this medieval way to look at the human mind is also much closer to contemporary science compared to the notion of "creativity".

"creativity" doesnt exists really. There is no brain system that can justify the idea of "creativity", other than that we also lack definitions. Well I come to that later for now I go on. The big idea is creativity should be used to invent something novel and useful and cheerful and is fun. But medieval thinkers were far ahead of this nonsense they decomposed the mind into functions. A "memoria" is a function in their medieval understanding. Thy were thinking already about semantic memory, episodic and procedural.

So in a nutshell medieval people knew already nothing can happen without memory of it. And any invention from a human is a recombination of something existing.

Now. In our days we think mental imagery and predictive simulations and all other possibilities and so on. What we are doing is reconnecting with medieval thinkers and acknowledging they were right all along. Contemporary science is obviously far more advanced, but the core idea is they acknowledge medieval way of seeing human memory was correct.

Prudentia is what we would call "executive control" but all it matters is we are saying imagination needs constraints. both medieval model and science of todays time reject this idea of "creativity magic" and think of cognition as a bunch of functions. Medieval thinkers would agree with our science of today and find it super cool. We instead love to see they were right all along.

Now. Human as a "creator" came later in renaissance. In the cold war it was promoted and funded the idea that creativity and problem-solving are unique to the west. So they did lots of education reforms emphaszing this invented quality of "creativity". Its basically about being "individual" and "anti authority" and "non dogmatic free thinker". Most of this is bunch of dogshit but the word creativity entered dictionaries ayway.

I was fooled by this word "creativity" and only by age 30 I realized it. I swear I used it for all my life. One day I checked info, and oh my god is true CIA invented it. Couldnt believe it. But is true.

I mean, I got fried by CIA and I didnt even know it. Just using a word influenced my entire life.
