I also nicknamed it "onion coping" and "recursive coping".
Its a system that is fool-proof and grants purgatory. Hope is an illusion, modernity is fake so on. But also cynicism is coping which causes a recursion where cope feeds on itself.
What I think can break this cope is alternative simple ideas.
The cope of houellebecq by nature is complex and has an intellectual posture. Intellectuals love to have complex ideas, but what if a truth is simple? Like, imagine 2+2 = 4 is kinda simple at an intuitive level. But it becomes complex if you cannot define what is a number. many math courses start by defining a number, while in engineering they often dont bother and just talk about formulas and applied math.
So, by this mechanism, something intuitively simple, can also be true, and complex at the same time. Lets recap, 2+2 = 4 is intuitively obvious. When you ask a kid if he understands what is a number he does. Its instant. But you can over-theorize too, ask yourself "what is a number" and you delay and destabilize truth indefinitely.
Houellebecq does something similar. Hes stuck and endlessly making problems out of something that is intuitively simple. And, simple inferences are blocked. you cannot counter the recursive coping introducing new ideas because the cope design of these frenchmen is made to revert on itself in a loop.
Cope design like this is one of the sturdiest. I dont follow it, I follow another cope design pattern I called "cope node structure" where my copes form long chains and intertwine and help each other in a node connection like petri nodes or similar.
In the frenchman coping system we see coping that is layered and reflective. Each layer feeds and legitimizes the previous one, creating a self sufficient structure. It creates a double purpose: gives you intellectual prestige and closes weak spots. I think is brittle because you can undermine it with simplicity as epistemic cope breaker. This cope breaks if you use simple "Intuitive ideas" that hold true in front of a kid.
Simple truths are non-recursive so they break also intellectualism posturing as a cope. Simplicity generates action very often. Once you find something simple yet true, you are forced to either ignore or do something about it. Truth is also status-neutral, it can be held by anyone low or high in an hierarchy. No intellectual can do much commentary on the intuitive simplicity, so they dont. The intellectuals focus on complex recursive self-stabilizing ideas.
I find this cope architecture not suited for me. Houellebecq proves why, it generates only purgatory and it cannot be solved. Frenchman coping is rejected. I dont like it. Simple as.
