Na Kyung-won, the Grand National Party's Seoul mayoral candidate, visited a facility for the severely disabled and forced a severely disabled youth, who was unable to move independently, to bathe naked in front of reporters.

In the process, the naked body of the youth, who was said to be mentally disabled but physically mature, was completely exposed. This was a clear violation of the rights of the disabled.

A bigger problem was the attitude of candidate Na's camp toward this incident. When criticism arose that it violated the rights of people with disabilities, the Na camp dismissed the incident as a problem. In fact, they shifted responsibility, claiming, "We told reporters we wouldn't release the bathing footage, but they did."

In fact, neither candidate Na nor any of her aides appeared to ask the press for "cooperation" to keep the footage confidential. Even if the reporters had begun their reporting under uncontrolled circumstances, they had ample opportunity to request that the footage be kept confidential, yet they ignored it. This suggests that no one in the Na camp was aware of the issue of disability rights. The

explanation that "we didn't request filming first" is equally flimsy. At the end of the bath, candidate Na even struck a friendly pose for the cameras, saying, "The lady gave me a bath, so give me a kiss."

Of course, if the "naked bathing" incident, which violated the rights of people with disabilities for the sake of "image politics," were the first, it's possible we might be lenient. However, the political world has already been vaccinated against this very issue.

Seven years ago, Democratic Party Supreme Council member Chung Dong-young faced harsh criticism for forcing a 30-year-old man with a physical disability to bathe naked in front of reporters at a welfare facility in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province. At the time, not only Chung but also the media outlets that covered and broadcast the bathing scene faced fierce criticism. This was similar to the current situation, where she attempted to cover up the incident by claiming, "It happened because we couldn't control the press," only to intensify the criticism.

Despite this, candidate Na is eager to evade the issue, saying, "I went there to volunteer" and "I don't want to talk about that anymore." This is similar to her evasive behavior regarding the controversy surrounding her false explanation regarding her attendance at the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Self-Defense Forces, where she said, "I have decided not to respond any further."
