Why do men simp?

I know, the usual explanation would be because they think it will give them pussy.
But is that really true? Have simps really not figured out that they don't get pussy that way?

Maybe the reason they simp is because they do get something out of it, even though it is not pussy.
They get some female attention. For example, if they give a compliment to a foid, they might receive a "thank you" in return. And that makes them feel good.

Or if they white knight to "protect" a foid, the foid might side with them opportunistically, to use them. But in the process of doing so, they might receive a little bit of foid's attention/fake thankfulness.

I think this is what simps crave. They crave female attention so much, that even if they get just a little bit of it through simping, they will do it.
