Latin is pretty useless in comparison to other languages these days. Definitely not A-tier.

In the immortal words of the great Charles V, "I speak Spanish to God, Italian to women, French to men, and German to my horse".

I don't believe the list was arrayed or compiled on the basis of general utility function of the languages but rather on the basis of their inherent appeal and the extent to which they may be pleasing to the ears to hear. If that is indeed the relevant metric then I would certainly place Latin at the top of such a list as it is in my estimation the apotheosis of all that a proper language ought to be. It is elegant without being pompous, sophisticated yet unpretentious and has a legacy, tradition and history whose immortality and grandeur surpasses all others.

I ranked them based on whether they sounded appealing to me or not. I should've clarified that. Anything you would change in the list? You sort of already answered this with the Charles V quote in your other post but there are plenty of other languages on the list that are not mentioned in that quote.

I personally would include Greek as a language worthy of being in the first rank of those which you selected though I am basing this off of the fact that I have a very strong affinity for the works of Homer which were of course originally an oral tradition. If you've ever heard the incantation of the Iliad or Odyssey in the original ancient Greek, the poetry is as emotive as it is evocative. Also, I give deference to Greek for its being the language of the civilization that imbued Rome with all of its greatest cultural attributes.

Homeric Greek and Classical/Attic Greek are quite different languages from modern Greek. I had modern Greek in mind when I made the list.

Civilizational impact of Greek is undeniable. I just don't like the way it sounds. Latin sounds much better to me.

You are right on both points it seems to me though I haven't a sufficiently acute ear for linguistic nuance to much distinguish the intonation of modern from classical Greek and I have heard both spoken before. I place much emphasis on the legacy of the language to history and civilization as speaking it is something of a tribute to or commemoration of the achievements of its illustrious forbearers whose excelsior strivings left an indelible legacy of greatness for all posterity.

This video has some examples showing the differences between the two. I can't say I like either of them but modern Greek sounds more simple and sterilized compared to Ancient Greek.

Greek should be S tier along with Latin because Greek, Latin and Hebrew were the original languages the Bible was written in before English. Praise the Lord Jesus. :pepecross:

English is the devil’s language in my opinion. Too many words have double meanings. I spell a word, “spell” also is like casting a wizard spell like Harry Potter. That’s just one example, there are countless others.

Italian, Spanish etc. all originated from Latin. Latin is the root language of these other European languages.

Also it’s easier to learn Spanish as a 2nd language than it is to learn English.

Im gld you put my language at the top. But I let you know I never was a fan of latin education and I would have preferred if it was greek. I mean I did 8 years of latin an 5 of greek so I surely got some greek. I did classical studies by the way, its basically humanities.

I can say, that I dont find latin very useful. And over time I always asked myself why they forced us to learn it. The overall saying is "latin teaches you how to think and makes you smart". Well, i think that works with greek but not latin. I think latin is more like a psyop, to connect you with modern church, and make you think your culture derives from the church. This is all supposition, dont bet on it. I started to think this is the case when I got into greek and hebrew translations of the bible and some adults accused me of being modernist or they had a distaste for hebrew or greek translations, and mostly they were recommending latin sources.

I asked myself "why is that". I have no idea. I suppose the latin vulgate is taught because is the version of the bible for the catholic church. I am broadly ignorant of religion squabbles but some scholars including erasmus and luther insisted it was best to get into hebrew and greek and I learned it later. I may sound foolish or dumb but thats it. I realized this could play a role in the decisions our teacherrs do. Basically I got into a school that used language as political tool. Luckily I detached from this trash dogshit so I am not pursuing one religion vs another. But if youre in the education system, prepare to be brainwashed with religion or ideology. Its going to be subtle, most normies dont even see it coming

Absolutely comrade, English is a bastardization and crude amalgamation of so many other languages which contributed to its eventual evolution into the modern form that it currently takes. I have never dabbled in philology, the study of which has consumed some of the greatest and most brilliant minds all have that domain as a common intellectual denominator (Nietzsche, Tolkien, etc.), I do think that the fact that English has appropriated unto itself elements from Latin, Celtic, proto-Germanic languages and even Spanish makes it a rather course and barbarous dialect compared to the elegance, clarity and beauty of say pure ancient Greek or refined and classical Latin.

You do me great honor sir by paying me such a compliment as that. I will admit that I am a very well read man who has thoroughly embraced the Aristotelian definition of a truly educated man which is one who knows enough about the world to know just how little he actually knows about all there really is to know. It may sound a bit trite or even tautological but it seems to me to be a correct assessment of the value, virtue and function of knowledge and it can be affirmed by observing that 99.999% of normies walking around today know so little about everything that they think themselves experts on a vast array of topics.
